Home of the popular Ramsey 1940s Weekend
The last searchlight moved off the Camp during WW2. A small caretaker garrison remained to maintain the Camp and keep it secure. A short while later 'squatters' moved in whilst the garrison remained, their homes being unfit for living in. Later known as Camp dwellers these families remained at the camp until the mid 60s!
It has always been our ambition to bring a searchlight back to the Camp and we are proud to announce that it will happen at the Ramsey 1940s Weekend 2019! Thanks to the owner Tim Sheldon and fellow restorer Dave Willey we will be exhibiting this stunning piece of engineering.
This stunning example of a General Electric 60" Searchlight and generating set will be operating at various times throughout both days. That's right, this outfit has been restored to full working order and is believed to be the only one operating in the United Kingdom. It will also be operated once Saturday evening between 2130 and 2230hrs for just 10 minutes, but in that 10 minutes once more a searchlight will pierce the night sky over Ramsey.
